National Fibromyalgia Association: Adjust Your Anger Management Style--Reduce Your Pain

National Fibromyalgia Association: Adjust Your Anger Management Style--Reduce Your Pain

I'm posting this link to an article about how suppressing your anger can lead to not only more fibro pain, but also increased anger....

This article really jumped out at me because I've somewhat subconsciously noticed that my anger has definitely intensified over the last few years. I used to be the most patient person in the world and now I find I live with alot of unresolved anger. Things that would have never bothered me before...can now insight me to great rage. I never really wanted to admit this to myself let alone to the world at large, but it's been a nagging thought in the back of my brain.

Has anyone else experienced this? What do you think of the article? I'd be very excited to hear the perspective of others on this topic

Great article! Thanks for the "find." I have also noticed a change over the last few years. But for me, it's not about anger but more just flat out irritability. I get annoyed and irritated at things that never would have bothered me years ago. I also have a lot more ups and downs mood-wise than I did even a year ago. Definitely something to explore.

I think such pop psychology ideas are TRUE about any health condition. Anger, ANY supressed feeling (love too) can screw w/immune systen, brain, and overall well-being. But cause or cure? NO. A placbo idea, if it makes u feel better more power to ya. Just don't start telling others to release their anger and reduce FMS, it is not a permanent fix. IMHO (I hold NOTHING in and am pain free.) BUT, I do not have FM. Never have had FM. Apples and oranges. Again, IMHO

I agree with both of you, and I would NEVER suggest that releasing your anger will leave you pain free...yikes lol.
I just find these things interesting, and quite often when you talk with others you find you've had similar experiences with things you never attributed to the disease. It's nice to know what's disease oriented and what is personality oriented...great pause for thought

I read an interesting book a while back; Freedom from Fibromyalgia : The 5-Week Program Proven to Conquer Pain by Nancy Selfridge. The book is based on Dr. John Sarno's "MindBody Prescription". The book focused, in part, on releasing your past anger. The NFA article reminded me of it. The book was different than any other fibro book I've read. I tried some of the exercises in the book, but it really wasn't my thing. I'd be interested to hear if someone else has luck with it.
